On March 22, the University of Management hosted a discussion with external stakeholders on the project to update the master’s educational program “Conflict Resolution and Mediation” in Sociology.

In the mode of ZOOM-conference, stakeholders representing research institutions, academic sector, management structures, non-governmental organizations joined the meeting.

– Opening the meeting, the rector of DSUM, Professor Svitlana Marova said:

“Constant communication with employers today is the key to building an effective system of quality assurance in education at the University. Based on your expert opinion, we can respond more flexibly to the dynamics of the labor market, offer new educational programs, modernize the content of existing ones. An example of our desire to respond to new challenges was to support the initiative of the Ministry of the Temporarily Occupied Territories and IDPs, as well as the British Council in Ukraine, to open in 2019 conflict-oriented educational programs in relocated free economic zones. Such a program has worked at DSUM and we are trying to develop it. I am sure that today’s meeting and your feedback will allow us to work out a number of constructive changes regarding the content of this program. “

The participants were invited to a sincere dialogue by the coordinator of international projects of DSUM, head of the Department of Tourism, expert of the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education, Professor Andriy Stoyka:

“The modernization of the Educational Program” Conflict Resolution and Mediation “is supported by the Eduspase Project. A few months ago, we conducted an expert survey of employers on the required competencies of freelance graduates, prospects for cooperation between free economic zones and business in general. Today it is important to clarify your vision of a set of hard skills and soft skills of interdisciplinary specialists in sociology and conflictology, to receive recommendations for greater consideration in the program of regional specifics, to consult on accents in the program – sociology of conflict or conflict management, research focus or practical.

In the first part of the meeting, the guarantor of the educational program “Conflict Resolution and Mediation” Natalia Nykyforenko acquainted the audience with the content of the project to update the OP, emphasizing the changes made to the program in connection with the pilot external evaluation under the EDUQAS project in April 2020. , taking into account the feedback and suggestions of students, the adoption in January 2021 of the master’s educational standard in the specialty “Sociology”.

Among the proposed changes:

  • – unification of the conditions of admission to the program for entrants with sociological and non-sociological specialties and abandonment of the practice of “compensatory semester” for students who do not have a bachelor’s degree in sociology;
  • – restriction of the final form of certification by preparation and protection of qualifying work;
  • – introduction instead of the discipline “Professional Foreign Language” of teaching the discipline “Communicative Workshop” in English;
  • – transfer to the sample pool of several disciplines from the regulatory cycle – “Security Studies”, “Information Technology in the field”.

Natalia Nykyforenko said that based on the results of the discussion of the changes with the students and the support group, the issue of replacing the discipline “Professional Foreign Language”, the normative status of the disciplines of law – “International Humanitarian Law” and “Restorative Justice” is currently under discussion.
